The first step to creating this culture is for the leader to set direction and agreed upon behavior. The leader does this by establishing the vision, mission, and core values. Simply stated the “what” is the vision the “how” is the mission and the “why” is how leadership engages the workforce to achieve the vision (what) by accomplishing the mission (how) with core values guiding organizational and personal behavior. After honesty, inspiring a shared vision is the most important characteristic a leader needs to have if people are going to willingly follow him or her. The leader establishes the vision and it is shared around the mission with inspiration coming from the leader communicating the why. If you want to inspire people give them the why.
