The evidence based leadership (EBL) is a researched based approach that uses a framework that aligns, goals, behaviors and processes so that school districts can achieve measurable and meaningful results. For school districts the rationale for applying the EBL framework is for leaders to create a great place for students to learn, staff to work, and parents to send their children for a good education.
Building school district and school excellence means applying EBL framework to develop leaders to reach their highest potential. The framework provides a method for leaders to align their performance to the overall performance of the school district. Leader performance appraisals represent the outcomes each leader is responsible for achieving. When a district performs well as measured by student achievement, workforce culture and engagement, and satisfaction of services by those being serviced, the respective leader’s evaluation aligns to the organizational goals.
When this approach is used the board can better meet their primary responsible and that is to govern the district. The Evidence-Based Leadership framework addresses the challenge of Board governance by aligning leader performance to school and school district measurable outcomes on essential core measures including student achievement, workforce engagement, parent satisfaction, satisfaction of services provided to support student achievement, and efficient use of funds to support student achievement. School boards and the superintendent determine a few core measures aligned to student achievement, workforce engagement, service to employees and families, and financial efficiencies for supporting student achievement. To ensure they are providing effective governance the school board creates the superintendent evaluation aligned to these core measurable outcomes and then the superintendent cascades the measurable outcomes to the executive level and then to the department and school levels to align all leader evaluations to the core measures.
